Two Different Speakers — Know Which One You Need
iPhones have two separate speakers, and a common repair mistake is ordering the wrong one. The earpiece (top speaker) is the small speaker you hold to your ear during calls. The lower loudspeaker (sometimes called the ringer or buzzer) handles music, ringtones, and speakerphone calls. If you can hear calls fine through headphones or speakerphone but not through the earpiece, it’s the top speaker. If ringtones and music sound distorted or silent, it’s the lower loudspeaker.

Important: Earpiece Replacement and Face ID
On iPhone X and later, the earpiece sits on a flex cable that also carries the proximity and ambient light sensors linked to the Face ID system. On these models, fitting a new earpiece will typically disable Face ID unless the original sensor flex is carefully transferred to the new part. On older Touch ID models (iPhone 8 and earlier), this isn’t a concern. If Face ID matters to your customer, factor this in before ordering.
