About SIM Card Trays
The SIM card tray holds your SIM card (and often a microSD card) and slides out of the side of your phone. Trays commonly go missing after being removed for SIM swaps, or get damaged when opened without the correct tool. Each tray is specific to your exact phone model and colour — a tray from one model will not fit a different model, even within the same phone generation.
Note: some newer phones, including recent iPhone models sold in certain regions, use eSIM only and have no physical SIM tray at all. If your phone doesn’t have a visible tray slot on the side, it likely doesn’t use a removable SIM tray.
How to Open a SIM Card Tray Safely
Use the SIM ejector tool that came with your phone, or a straightened paperclip, inserted firmly and straight into the small pinhole beside the tray. Avoid sharp objects like knives or scissors, which can damage the tray or the eject mechanism. If your tray won’t open or feels stuck, forcing it can bend or break it — a replacement is often the safest fix at that point.
SIM Card Tray Pricing
SIM card tray replacement typically costs between R50 and R150 in South Africa, depending on your phone model and brand. Pricing is shown on each product listing and reflects current stock. Every tray comes with our standard 6-month warranty.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I replace the SIM card tray myself? Yes — SIM trays simply slide in and out, no tools or technical skill required beyond a SIM ejector pin or straightened paperclip.
What is the SIM card tray also called? You may also see it referred to as a SIM slot, SIM holder, or SIM card slot tray.
What should I do if my SIM tray is lost? Order a replacement tray for your exact phone model and colour — trays are inexpensive and widely available, and your phone won’t function with a SIM card without one.
